Josh Burkman and Paul Felder fight Sunday night at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in UFC Fight Night 88.
Josh Burkman enters this fight with a 29-12 record and has won 41 percent of his fights by decision. Burkman has split his last eight fights and is coming off a February win over K.J. Noons. Burkman is averaging 2.67 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 44.4 percent. Burkman is averaging 2.73 takedowns with an accuracy percentage of 37.5 percent. Burkman hopes his move to the lightweight division will help string wins together, as he claimed he lost about 20 pounds in 24 hours to make weight. While that shouldn’t be the case here, Burkman is still one of the better strikers in his class and still has knockout power at 36. The People's Warrior should be more comfortable now after hitting a recent rough patch. This will be Burkman’s 14th fight in Las Vegas.
USA TODAY Sports
Paul Felder enters this fight with a 11-2 record and has won 64 percent of his fights by knockout. Felder has won six of his last eight fights and is coming off a January win over Daron Cruickshank. Felder is averaging 3.59 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 41.8 percent. Felder is averaging 0.68 takedowns with an accuracy percentage of 50 percent. Felder bounced back nicely from back-to-back losses after picking up his first submission victory four months ago. The Irish Dragon is still a striker at heart and has clear knockout power and an athletic attack. Felder is very violent and aggressive, keeping his opponent on his toes at all times. This will be Felder’s third fight in Las Vegas.
Even though Burkman won his last fight, he hasn’t looked great the last few years and is going up against one of the better lightweights and a knockout machine in Felder. This seems like a mismatch to me, as Felder is stronger and more accurate.
I’ll take Felder for the victory.
