Sara McMann and Jessica Eye fight Sunday night at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in UFC Fight Night 88.
Sara McMann enters this fight with a 8-3 record and has won 50 percent of her fights by decision. McMann has lost three of her last four fights and is coming off a August loss to Amanda Nunes. McMann is averaging 2.56 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 46.2 percent. McMann is averaging 5.31 takedowns with an accuracy percentage of 70.8 percent. McMann is kind of in a must-win situation as her UFC career hasn’t been the prettiest. Speaking of pretty, McMann’s fighting style can be boring at times, as she’s a grappler and wrestler at heart who wants her fights on the canvas and wearing down her opponent. McMann isn’t that effective at all standing up. This will be McMann’s third fight in Las Vegas.
USA TODAY Sports
Jessica Eye enters this fight with a 11-4 record and has won 64 percent of her fights by decision. Eye has lost three of her last four fights and is coming off a October loss to Julianna Peña. Eye is averaging 4.18 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 39.6 percent. Eye is averaging 0.23 takedowns with an accuracy percentage of 100 percent. Eye also needs a victory after entering an ugly slump that includes three decision losses the last two years. Eye is a striker at heart who throws a lot of punches and has impressive hand speed. The concern with Eye is that she’s not much of a grappler or wrestler, putting a lot of pressure on her strikes to land. This will be Eye’s second fight in Las Vegas.
Both of these girls are struggling and are desperate for a victory. Eye has the potential to end this fight with one or two strikes, but she’s at a disadvantage overall due to McMann’s ability to wrestle and grapple. Eye hasn’t shown she can hang with above-average wrestlers, and McMann is an Olympic silver medalist.
I have to side with McMann due to her advantage on the canvas.
