Urijah Faber enters this fight with a 33-8 record and has won 52 percent of his fights by submission. Faber has won six of his last eight fights and is coming off a December win over Frankie Saenz. Faber is averaging 2.72 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 42.9 percent. Faber is averaging 1.58 takedowns with an accuracy percentage of 31.3 percent. Faber continues to roll despite turning 37 two weeks ago and six of his last eight wins have come by submission. Faber is known for his grappling and wrestling, and 19 of his 33 wins have come by submission. Faber is also an accurate striker who does a nice job of setting up his takedowns. This will be Faber’s 21st fight in California, his home state.
Cruz is a better fighter than he was nine years ago, is highly motivated to avenge his only career loss and is six years younger than The California Kid who is no longer a kid. Besides that loss many years ago, Cruz hasn’t given us much of a reason to bet against him, and he’s a more balanced fighter who can win in a variety of ways.
This fight may be closer than what the odds indicate, but Cruz should be able to get the job done.
