Cat Zingano and Julianna Pena fight Saturday night during UFC 200 at the T-Mobile Arena.
Cat Zingano enters this fight with a 9-1 record and has won 56 percent of her fights by knockout. Zingano has won five of her last six fights and is coming off a 2015 loss to Ronda Rousey. Zingano is averaging 3.06 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 72.8 percent. Zingano is averaging 2.45 takedowns with an accuracy percentage of 100 percent. Zingano hasn’t fought in over a year, and this will be just her third fight since 2014. Zingano is a great athlete with effective takedown ability, and she’s comfortable from either top or bottom position. Zingano is also an accurate and powerful striker who has produced knockouts in three of her last four victories. This will be Zingano’s third fight in Las Vegas.
USA TODAY Sports
Julianna Pena enters this fight with a 8-2 record and has won 50 percent of her fights by submission. Pena has won her last three fights and is coming off a October win over Jessica Eye. Pena is averaging 4.34 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 47.9 percent. Pena is averaging 3.76 takedowns with an accuracy percentage of 66.6 percent. Pena is now undefeated in UFC and is quickly climbing up the rankings at just 26 years old. Pena has a solid reach of 69 inches, lands a lot of strikes throughout each round and has produced knockouts in two of her last three victories. Pena is also comfortable on the canvas and has the ability to wear down her opponent with a strong grappling and wrestling game. This will be Pena’s second fight in Las Vegas.
Pena is an intriguing underdog in this fight due to her youth, confidence and ability to land strikes. However, Zingano is the more polished fighter at this point and has the advantage if this fight goes to the canvas. Zingano is also a smart striker who isn’t going to put herself in danger when standing up.
Pena has a better shot than what the odds give her, but for my money, I have to back the experience and side with Zingano.
