Rose Namajunas and Karolina Kowalkiewicz fight Saturday night on UFC 201 at the Philips Arena.
Rose Namajunas enters this fight with a 6-2 record and has won 83 percent of her fights by submission. Namajunas has won three straight fights and is coming off a April win over Tecia Torres. Namajunas is averaging 2.79 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 39.8 percent. Namajunas is averaging 3.49 takedowns with an accuracy percentage of 66.6 percent. Namajunas has found her groove since joining the UFC and has pulled off three straight impressive victories. Namajunas is a relentless takedown artist who has had just one of her six wins not end with a submission. Namajunas still isn’t the best striker in the world, but she’s more than a handful if she can get her opponent on the canvas. This will be Namajunas’ first fight in Atlanta.
USA TODAY Sports
Karolina Kowalkiewicz enters this fight with a 9-0 record and has won 67 percent of her fights by decision. This will be Kowalkiewicz’s fourth fight since 2015, and she’s coming off a May win over Heather Jo Clark. Kowalkiewicz is averaging 6.17 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 43 percent. Kowalkiewicz is averaging zero takedowns with an accuracy percentage of zero percent. Kowalkiewicz hopes to continue climbing the UFC totem pole after a 2-0 start and an undefeated record in her MMA career overall. Kowalkiewicz hasn’t shown much ground game in her first two UFC fights but does have an aggressive and effective striking attack where she mixes her kicks and boxing skills well. Kowalkiewicz is also a polished grappler who rarely gets caught out of position. This will be Kowalkiewicz’s first fight in Atlanta.
This will be the biggest test yet for Kowalkiewicz considering she’s not a great wrestler, and Namajunas is certainly going to make her fight on the canvas early and often. Kowalkiewicz also isn’t a strong enough striker and doesn’t have the power to overwhelm Namajunas in any way. I feel this is a bad matchup for the 30-year-old Polack.
Give me Namajunas to win this entertaining fight.
