Cris Cyborg and Holly Holm fight Saturday during UFC 219 at the T-Mobile Arena.
Cris Cyborg enters this fight with a 18-1 record and has won 89 percent of her fights by knockout. Cyborg has won her last 18 fights and is coming off a July win over Tonya Evinger. Cyborg is averaging 7.83 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 51.8 percent. Cyborg is averaging one takedown with an accuracy percentage of 57.1 percent. Cyborg is now 3-0 under the UFC banner and has won all of her fights by knockout, proving she’s more than capable of staying true to her reputation of being a pit bull in the octagon. Cyborg has explosive athleticism, a pressure style and throws vicious, powerful strikes with a relentless attack. There’s not many who can hang with Cyborg standing up, and its only a matter of time before her opponents chin is tested. On the ground, Cyborg is athletic and strong enough to hold her own, staying out of a dangerous position. Cyborg is simply in a class of her own in terms of striking, and there may be no slowing down the 32-year-old anytime soon. This will be Cyborg’s second MMA fight in Las Vegas.
USA TODAY Sports
Holly Holm enters this fight with a 11-3 record and has won 73 percent of her fights by knockout. Holm has split her last six fights and is coming off a June win over Bethe Correia. Holm is averaging three significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 35.1 percent. Holm is averaging 0.25 takedowns with an accuracy percentage of 18.1 percent. Holm was able to snap a three-fight losing streak with a third round knockout, a victory that allows the 36-year-old to stay relevant and keep getting quality fights on these big cards, as many were ready to write her off. It’s no secret what Holm brings to the table when in good form, as she's one of the better female strikers in the sport thanks to a deep boxing and kickboxing background. Holm is always a strike or two away from ending a fight and uses her legs as well as anybody in the sport. However, Holm isn’t getting any younger and one victory doesn’t exactly make us forget she enters this bout in shaky form. This will be Holm’s second MMA fight in Las Vegas.
When it’s a battle between two power strikers, you can never say for sure who is going to win, as one punch or kick can change anything. Holm is the slightly longer fighter between the two and is probably the more disciplined. However, I don’t pick against Cyborg in any situation. She’s just another level fighter who has a combination of power and aggression that can’t be matched. Her striking attack is relentless and it’s not a matter of if she catches you, it’s when. Holm has never been knocked out in her career, but she’s also never fought somebody like Cyborg, either. Both of these fighters should get what they want in a standup battle, and picking against Cyborg simply isn’t an option when that’s the case.
Give me the Brazilian to win this fight.
