Rafael dos Anjos and Colby Covington fight Saturday during UFC 225 at the United Center.
Rafael dos Anjos enters this fight with a 28-9 record and has won 50 percent of his fights by decision. dos Anjos has won six of his last eight fights and is coming off a December win over Robbie Lawler. dos Anjos is averaging 3.67 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 44.3 percent. dos Anjos is averaging 2.14 takedowns with an accuracy percentage of 40 percent. dos Anjos has put together a nice three-fight winning streak and is fresh off an impressive five round fight where he landed 172 significant strikes and produced two takedowns. dos Anjos has put together some of the better showings of his career recently and hasn’t lost since 2016 against Tony Ferguson. Of course, dos Anjos is one of the more balanced fighters within the division, as he’s an aggressive striker who mixes in his punched and kicks well, and he’s a highly successful takedown artist. dos Anjos is comfortable no matter where the fight goes and has been finished just once in the last seven years. dos Anjos also has great stamina to be effective each round and has been on the winning side in 14 of 20 career decisions. This will be dos Anjos’ first career fight in Chicago.

Colby Covington enters this fight with a 13-1 record and has won 46 percent of his fights by decision. Covington has won each of his last five fights and is coming off a October win over Demian Maia. Covington is averaging 3.09 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 41 percent. Covington is averaging 5.98 takedowns with an accuracy percentage of 53.9 percent. Covington is now an impressive 8-1 under the UFC banner and is coming off a decision victory in which he landed 121 total strikes and 88 significant strikes. Covington hasn’t lost since his 2015 bout against Warlley Alves, which is also his only career loss. There’s no secret or surprises when it comes to Covington, as he’s an extremely successful wresleter and grappler who has 41 takedowns on the UFC level and 11 of his 13 fights have ended by submission or decision. Covington is going to spend very little time on his feet, so his opponent better be a smart wrestler or have a strong takedown defense if he’s going to win. There aren’t simply many guys within this division who are capable of going three rounds with the 30-year-old and his relentless ground game. This will be Covington’s first career fight in Chicago.
dos Anjos is enjoying some of his best fighting currently and has the striking attack to really put fear into Covington. The ground game won’t matter much if the Brazilian lands a couple of clean shots when he’s rushing in, and dos Anjos has also been taken down just once in his last four fights, so he’s not the easiest guy in the world to get on the canvas. However, Covington is relentless with his attack and for the most part hasn’t been stopped when it comes to controlling the fights. Covington makes his opponents fight his style pretty much in every bout, and that’s almost all you can ask for in a battle. Beat me at my own game. Fight on my terms.
We’re getting even money with a wrestling machine. I’ll take it.
