Julia Budd and Talita Nogueira fight Friday during Bellator 202 at WinStar World Casino.
Julia Budd enters this fight with an 11-2 record and has won six of her fights by decision. Budd has won each of her last nine fights and is coming off a December win over Arlene Blencowe. Budd successfully defended her Bellator Women's Featherweight World Championship with a controversial split decision and will fight for the first time this year. Budd still hasn’t lost since her 2011 bout against Ronda Rousey and five of her last six victories have ended in decision. Budd is primarily a striker who comes from a deep kickboxing background and produced a 10-2 record with four knockouts professionally. Budd has some pop in her hands and the threat of her standup attack allows her to get easy takedowns where she can work her ground and pound as well. Budd isn’t the finisher some think she should be given her overall skills, but she’s highly effective with her attack and usually controls the pace with her aggression. This will be Budd’s third career fight in Oklahoma.

Talita Nogueira enters this fight with an 7-0 record and has won five of her fights by submission. This will be Nogueira’s second fight since 2017 and is coming off a August win over Amanda Bell. Nogueira was impressive in her Belabor debut, forcing a first round submission over her strongest opponent to date. Nogueira has fought just once in the last four and a half years, as she felt with a serious knee injury and the death of her mother, so her recent fight was even more impressive given the amount of time outside of the octagon. Nogueira is a clear takedown artist who feels at her best on the canvas and has five submission victories overall, three of which have come by the armbar. Nogueira has some striking ability and her other two victories have come by knockout, but she’s proven she’s at her best when scrambling and wrestling for position. Nogueira is also a very quick worker with four of her last five victories coming in the first round. This will be Nogueira’s second career fight in the United States.
This will be a nice clash of styles, as Budd is an aggressive striker both standing up and on the ground, while Nogueira is a chess player in the octagon and is looking for the submission. It’s a good all striker against grappler style match and whoever can force their style on the other will end up on the winning side. I’m giving Budd the edge here because of her physicality and willingness to go for takedowns as well. Usually when it’s the type of fight, the striker wants no part of the canvas. Budd is comfortable and once she gains top position, she unleashes a nasty ground and pound. Nogueira has to be careful in this fight.
I like Budd to defend her title.
