Vitor Miranda and Abu Azaitar fight Sunday during UFC Fight Night 134 at the Barclaycard Arena.
Vitor Miranda enters this fight with a 13-6 record and has won 77 percent of his fights by knockout. Miranda has split his last six fights and is coming off a June (2017) loss to Marvin Vettori. Miranda is averaging 3.39 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 46.2 percent. Miranda is averaging 0.47 takedowns with an accuracy percentage of 40 percent. Miranda is coming off a tight decision loss in which he landed 74 strikes but ate 81 strikes and was taken down three times. Miranda has lost his last two fights and kind of needs to win this bout to prove there’s still something left in the tank at now 39 years old. Miranda is a striker at heart with a deep background in kickboxing and nine of his career victories have come by knockout. When able to standup, Miranda has shown to be able to hold his own with anybody, especially when he’s been finished just once in his career. The problem is Miranda doesn’t have the best takedown defense, so he can be taken out of his comfort zone more often than he’d like. This will be Miranda’s first career fight in Germany.

Abu Azaitar enters this fight with a 13-1-1 record and has won 54 percent of his fights by knockout. Azaitar has won each of his last four fights and is coming off a October (2016) win over Michael Arrant. Azaitar enters this bout on a roll, as he’s dominated each of his last nine fights and hasn’t lost a fight since 2012 against Marcin Naruszczka. Azaitar has an aggressive style where he throws combinations and looks to pressure his opponent. Azaitar has one punch knockout potential and has shown he can be affective in the clinch where he uses his knees well. Azaitar still needs to improve his ground game and wrestling overall, but he’s a scrappy, wild fighter who is usually at his best when kind of freestyling everything in the octagon. Azaitar will bring a fun style to the card and is going to be the aggressor in this fight. The obvious concern with Azaitar is that he’s been out of the octagon for quite a while, which doesn’t seem good when making his UFC debut.
This is an odd fight considering both guys have been out of the octagon for so long. Azaitar hasn’t fought in a year and a half and is making his UFC debut. It’s strange. Miranda is up there in age and is coming off two straight losses. Flip a coin. I’m giving the edge to Miranda if forced to pick, as he has the clear experience edge and is the lengthier, bigger fighter in what is likely going to be a striking battle. I need to see how much rust there is with Azaitar and if he can hold his own against better competition before betting on him.
I give the edge to Lex Luthor.
