Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Tecia Torres fight Saturday during UFC on Fox 30 at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
Joanna Jedrzejczyk enters this fight with a 14-2 record and has won 64 percent of her fights by decision. Jedrzejczyk has won five of her last six fights and is coming off a April loss to Rose Namajunas. Jedrzejczyk is averaging 6.63 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 48.5 percent. Jedrzejczyk is averaging 0.17 takedowns with an accuracy percentage of 66.6 percent. Jedrzejczyk is coming of back-to-back losses to the same fighter, but you can make a case she was on the wrong side of the decision. In the loss, Jedrzejczyk landed 40 more significant strikes and 52 more strikes overall. So, while losing twice for the UFC Women's Strawweight Championship won’t feel good, JJ more than held her own an proved she’s one of the top fighters in this division. Jedrzejczyk proves she’s an extremely decorated kick boxer who is highly effective with her knees and legs, and she’s an overall highly efficient striker with superb accuracy and a background in boxing. Jedrzejczyk has great technique, knows how to finish her opponent despite most of her fights ending in decision, and she usually always has the advantage when fighting standing up. Seven of Jedrzejczyk’s last 10 fights have gone the distance. This will be Jedrzejczyk’s first career fight in Canada.

Tecia Torres enters this fight with a 10-2 record and has won 90 percent of her fights by decision. Torres has won six of her last eight fights, and she’s coming off a February loss to Jessica Andrade. Torres is averaging 4.74 significant strikes per minute with an accuracy percentage of 49.3 percent. Torres is averaging 0.95 takedowns with an accuracy percentage of 22.5 percent. Torres was simply dominated in her last fight, as she ate 151 total strikes and was taken down 10 times. Torres showed great toughness by landing 69 significant strikes and forcing the fight to go to the judges, but she struggled from start to finish to make an impact in that bout. At 28 years old, Torres is a pure striker who lands with great accuracy and is quite an athlete who controls the octagon well. Torres has a deep background in taekwondo and karate, and she makes it uncomfortable for her opponent, as she counters well and can pounce due to her quickness. Torres has also produced seven takedowns on the UFC level and has shown she’s improved her grappling attack. Torres is also well conditioned and has been on the winning side of nine of 11 career decisions. The thing that must improve obviously based on her last bout is her takedown defense, which is now 42.8 percent. This will be Torres’ first career fight in Canada.
Torres looked awful the last time she was in the octagon, and she’s now fighting somebody who is even better than that. Jedrzejczyk has been consistent her whole career and an argument can be made she won her last fight. Jedrzejczyk has a five inch reach advantage over Torres here, and she’s the much more polished and aggressive striker. More skills and longer length, the American is going to have her hands full dealing with Jedrzejczyk.
Jedrzejczyk gets back on track with a convincing victory.
