Tony Ferguson is set to fight Anthony Pettis at UFC 229 in the clash in the lightweight division.

Tony Ferguson enters this fight with a professional MMA record of 23 wins and 3 losses. The last time Ferguson fought was 12 months ago where he won the interim Lightweight title although he was stripped of the belt due to an injury. This will be the first time that Tony Ferguson will be fighting since his injury and while he is fit to compete, it is never easy returning to the main stage following such an occurrence. Tony Ferguson is an exceptional submission artist and he has shown his skills in the discipline many times as 9 of his wins have been via this method. If the fight gets onto the mat, Ferguson will be at a massive advantage.

Joshua Dahl-USA TODAY Sports

On the other side of the coin, Anthony Pettis enters this fight having won his last fight at UFC 226 in July. It has been a hard few years for Pettis as his record has only been 5-3 since losing the UFC Lightweight title in 2015. As a whole, Pettis has an exceptional record of 21 wins and 7 losses with a UFC title reign but the speed and ruthlessness seem to have left the former champion. Over the past few years, Pettis looks to be at a much lower level than Ferguson and it is going be very hard for the former UFC Lightweight champion to get a win at this event.

All in all, I am expecting a good fight between two very accomplished MMA fighters. That being said, I see Tony Ferguson winning this fight. Ferguson has been in much better form over the past few years and seems to be faster and more ruthless than Anthony Pettis at this moment in time. With the determination of regaining his stripped title, I see Tony Ferguson winning.
