We got back in the winners circle last week with Kyle Busch, and it’s about time we put a little streak together like we have in the past. This week we head to Bristol for the Food City 500, a race that debuted in 1961 and has been dominated by Chevrolet over the years.
Here are five drivers to consider throwing on this week’s card. (Odds weren’t released when this article was posted)
USA TODAY Sports
Kyle Busch - We hit on Kyle Busch last week, and we’re going to play him again. Not only has Busch either won or finished runner-up in four of his last five races, but he’s owned Bristol over the years. Busch has won this race three times, and he’s finished in the top-five in six of his last 10 appearances overall at the Bristol Motor Speedway. Busch also has numerous wins on this track in the Camping World Truck Series and Xfinity Series. Busch is once again a must play this weekend.
Kurt Busch - Kurt Busch is coming off one of his better performances of the season last week with a seventh place finish, and he heads to an event he won four times. Only Rusty Wallace, Darrell Waltrip and Dale Earnhardt have won this event more than Busch. Like Kyle, Busch has also finished in the top-five in six of his last 10 appearances overall at the Bristol Motor Speedway. He hasn’t won an event since last years Daytona 500, but Busch is worth a look to snap that streak.
Joey Logano - Joey Logano has finished seventh or better in six of the first seven races and that consistency alone makes him a play each week. If that weren’t enough, Logano has won two races at the Bristol Motor Speedway and has finished in the top-10 in six of his last nine appearances here overall. Basically, until Logano stops his streak of top-10 finishes and giving himself a chance to win, you almost have to include him on your card every week.
Erik Jones - Erik Jones is coming off his best performance of the year with a fourth place finish in Texas, and he heads to Bristol where he has history. Jones finished runner-up in his last appearance at the Bristol Motor Speedway and had an average finish of 9.5 in his two races here last year. Jones also has a couple of wins on this track in the Xfinity Series. This could be the moment the 21-year-old wins his first Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race.
Denny Hamlin - Denny Hamlin has finished outside of the top-10 in three of his last five races and is coming off a rough performance in Texas. However, Hamlin does have top-10 finishes in five of his last eight appearances at the Bristol Motor Speedway, which includes finishing third in three of the last five tries. Hamlin has never won this particular Bristol race in his career, but there’s no denying his consistency at this track. I look for a bounce back performance this week from the 37-year-old.
