Los Angeles Lakers vs. San Antonio Spurs - 11/1/13

Richard Mackson-USA TODAY Sports

Just one night after running away with a comfortable victory against their cross-town rivals, the Los Angeles Lakers came crashing back down to earth in their showdown with the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday, falling in a high-scoring affair 125-94. Granted, it was the first game of the season, but the Lakers looked sharp in their 116-103 win against the heavily favored Clippers, which included 41 fourth quarter points and a whopping 76 points from their second-unit. While the bench outscored the starters for the second time in as many games, they were never really in the contest against the Warriors as they trailed by double-digits at quarter time and then by 19 at the major break. Through two games, Los Angeles is now allowing an average of 114 points, which is a small sample size, but still a concern nevertheless.

Thanks to a big second quarter, the San Antonio Spurs had little trouble dispatching the visiting Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday night, cruising to a 101-94 victory in their season opener. The Spurs actually trailed in the first term, but that didn’t last for long as they outscored the visitors 30-7 in the second quarter to take a commanding lead into the major break, which ultimately proved to be the difference in the game. Kawhi Leonard and Boris Diaw led a even scoring attack with 14 points apiece while Tim Duncan left the game in the third quarter with a chest contusion after taking an inadvertent elbow and didn’t return. His status for tonight’s game is unknown.

How can you not love the over in this one? Just as we all thought, the Lakers are still a decent offensive team, yet they are a mess defensively, having yielded 103 and 125 points thus far. The Spurs shouldn't have any problems scoring the ball here, just like in their last three playoff games aganist LA last season when they put up an average of over 108 points. Tim Duncan or not, I like the over here....
