The Utah Jazz head to Phoenix on Friday to face off against the Suns.
The Phoenix Suns started off their season on a winning note on Wednesday when the Suns defeated the Portland Trail Blazers 104-91 in Phoenix. The Suns catch a break here with back to back home games, including an extra day off. Against the Trail Blazers the Suns took command early, and then survived a second quarter surge by Portland. The Suns answered big time in the second half, outlasting yet another push by the Trail Blazers, but by then it was too late for Portland. The Suns had four starters reach double digits in points on the night, led by Dragic, who finished with 26. Plumlee earned a double double on the night, going for 18 points and 15 rebounds against the Trail Blazers.

The Utah Jazz are 0-1 to start their season, but there isn’t much shame in that, considering the fact that the Jazz had to play on the road at OKC, one of the toughest places to play in the league. Utah kept within striking distance of the Thunder, falling 101-98 to OKC. I liked the way that Utah spread the ball around against the Thunder. Off the bench, Alec Burks was solid, finishing the night with 24 points, leading the Jazz scorers. Five other players reached double digits as well. If this team continues to get solid bench play, and they are able to distribute the ball well, the Jazz could be a tough out this season, especially at home.
The Jazz are 9-4 overall in their last 13 games, but just 3-10 overall in their last 13 games on the road. The Suns are just 3-12 overall in their last 15 games, and the total has gone under the number in five of the last seven games for the Suns. Phoenix is just 1-4 overall in their last five games against the Jazz, and Phoenix is 5-13 against the spread in their last 18 home games against Utah.
I have to take the Jazz in this spot. I wouldn’t overreact too much to the Suns opening night win against the Trail Blazers. Portland is improved, but playing against a team on opening night on the road, is no easy task. This Jazz team is better than either the Trail Blazers or the Suns. Utah is already tested, having faced the Thunder on the road, so a trip further south to the desert shouldn’t rattle them too much. Phoenix will keep this close for awhile, but in the end I look for the Jazz to pull away, winning easily.
