The Los Angeles Lakers have their work cut out for them on Tuesday when the Lakers face the Mavs in Dallas.
The Dallas Mavericks are sitting at 2-1 this season following a win against the Grizzlies on Saturday, 111-99. The Mavs had a rough year last year, but so far Dallas is looking good, ranking third in the league in points scored per game, at 111.3. Defense is still an issue in Dallas however as the Mavs are ranked 28th in the NBA, giving up 107 points per game on average. The Mavs were led by Nowitzki in their win against the Grizzlies, but all five starters for Dallas finished the night with double digit points, and everyone who played finished with a positive +/-.

The Los Angeles Lakers are sitting at 2-2 this season, and while not much is expected out of L.A. this year, the Lakers are showing everyone that there is some fight in them still. The Lakers are ranked 12th in the league currently in points per game, with an average of 100, while giving up an average of 105.5 this season, putting the Lakers at 25th. One area where the Lakers are really excelling is on the boards, where Los Angeles is ranked 5th in the league. If the Lakers can keep up this strong rebounding trend, L.A. will be a tough out this season, especially at home. In the Lakers last outing, L.A. fell to the Atlanta Hawks 105-103 on Sunday.
The Lakers are 2-2 this season, but through their last eight, Los Angeles is just 2-6 overall. Los Angeles is 1-4 against the spread in their last five games on the road, and the Lakers are 1-4 straight up in their last five road games as well. The Dallas Mavericks are 5-2 overall in their last seven games, and the Mavs are 4-1 overall in their last five games at home. Dallas is only 1-4 against the spread however, in their last five home games while hosting the Lakers.
I’m going to back the Lakers in this spot. This is not a particularly strong play for me as I am not completely sold on Los Angeles at this point. I do like the Lakers ability to out rebound the Mavs, and while Dallas is currently out shooting the Lakers, 49 percent to 46, the extra chances the Lakers could get will be beneficial.
I don’t think the Lakers win this one outright, but getting more than seven with this team looks like the side to be on in Dallas.
