The Portland Trail Blazers collide with Dwight Howard and the Houston Rockets on Tuesday night from the Rose Garden.
The Portland Trail Blazers have bounced back after their disappointing season opening loss in Phoenix by beating two of last year’s Western Conference playoffs teams in the Denver and San Antonio to improve to 2-1 on the young season. The Trail Blazers were clicking on all cylinders on the offensive side of the ball in their back-to-back victories, putting up 113 and 115 points, respectively. The duo of LaMarcus Aldridge and Damien Lillard have led the way for Portland, however, Nicolas Batum was instrumental in both of their wins as he posted 21 first-half points in their win in Denver and then a triple-double in their home opener against the Spurs on Saturday night.

In one of the most entertaining games you will see this season, the Houston Rockets fell to the Los Angeles Clippers 137-118 on Monday night to suffer their first loss of the season. Having won their opening three games, the high scoring Rockets were no match from Chris Paul and company as they trailed 42-25 at the first break and couldn’t recover after that in what was easily the highest scoring game of the short season thus far. James Harden and Dwight Howard, who was making his return to Los Angeles for the first time, were collectively held in check, combining for just 28 points on 10-25 shooting from the field. Omri Casspi led the way off the bench with 19 points and nine rebounds.
Head to head, the Rockets are 6-1-1 ATS in the last 8 meetings and 4-0-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings in Portland while the road team is 4-1-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings and the underdog is 9-3-1 ATS in the last 13 meetings. The Trail Blazers are 1-8 ATS in their last 9 home games and 4-12 ATS in their last 16 games overall. The Rockets on the other hand are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 vs. Western Conference and 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall.
I would have taken Portland here if the Rockets won in Los Angeles last night, but instead the over looks like the best play on the board in this one. If you didn’t read above, Houston just played in a game where the total points scored was 255 and while Los Angeles is currently the best offensive team in the league, the Trail Blazers are no slouches themselves. They have averaged 114 points in their last two games and I see this being another shootout…
