The San Antonio Spurs improved to 3-1 after taking care of the Denver Nuggets 102-94 in the Mile High City on Tuesday night. After suffering their first loss of the season in Portland on Saturday, the Spurs started slowly against the Nuggets and it looked they were heading for their second straight loss until outscoring the home team 30-16 in the final term. Tony Paker finished with a game-high 24 points on 9-13 shooting and Tim Duncan had 17 with eight rebounds, eight assists and four blocks.
Along with the Philadelphia 76ers, the Phoenix Suns are the surprise team of the NBA in the first week of action. Funnily enough, both the Suns and 76ers were predicted to finish at the bottom of their respective conferences this season and they still might, but they sure have started well. New recruit Eric Bledsoe, who finished with 25 points on 10-12 shooting in their 104-98 victory in New Orleans on Tuesday night, now has 51 points, 19 assists, 11 rebounds and six steals in his last two games as he is asserting himself as the go-to guy for this young and inexperienced squad.
15 points, are you kidding me? Have you seen this Suns team play this season? They are very young, but they are playing with confidence and Bledsoe is playing like an All-Star at the moment. Sure, the Spurs are the Spurs, but they coming off a game last night, as are Phoenix, but they are a much younger squad. This seems too good to be true, but I just can’t pass up 15 points …
