The Golden State Warriors head to San Antonio on Friday to face off against the Spurs.
The San Antonio Spurs are once again among the elite of the league this season, as the Spurs are sitting at 4-1 through their first five. The Spurs have the 11th ranked scoring defense currently, allowing 96.8 per game, and if this season is like any of the recent seasons for the Spurs, San Antonio will only get better defensively as the season goes on. Offensively the Spurs are of course solid as well, scoring 99.6 on averages this year with Parker leading the way, averaging a solid 19.6 per game. The Spurs won their last outing in a tight one with the Suns, defeating Phoenix in San Antonio 99-96 on Wednesday.

The Golden State Warriors are also 4-1 this season, and the Warriors are getting their wins by lighting up the scoreboard. The Warriors currently have the number one scoring offense in the league, averaging a very impressive 110.8 points per game. Defensively the Warriors aren’t as solid, but still Golden State is respectable on the other end of the court as well, holding opponents to an average of 98 points per outing. The Warriors are led offensively by Thompson, who is scoring an impressive 24 per game this year.
The Golden State Warriors are 3-1 against the spread this season, and on the road this year, the Warriors are a solid 2-1 against the number. The Warriors are also 2-1 against the spread this year, when coming off a win of ten points or more. When playing against good offensive teams (scoring 99+ per game) the Warriors are 2-0 against the spread.
The San Antonio Spurs are just 2-3 against the number on the year, and at home, the Spurs are 1-1 against the spread. On Friday nights this season, the Spurs are 0-1 against the spread. When playing against teams from the Pacific division, the Spurs are 0-2 ATS on the year.
I’m on the Spurs in this spot. Stephen Curry is listed as questionable with an ankle injury for the Warriors, and Curry is listed as day to day. I do expect to see Curry tonight against the Spurs, but I think he will be limited. Why risky further injury this far into the season?
San Antonio is the better team, even with Curry on the court and getting the Spurs at home is even better. This is the second home game in a row for San Antonio, while this is the second road game for the Warriors in a row. The Spurs didn’t look all that impressive in their win against the Suns, which actually plays to our advantage a bit here as I expected to see this number higher than it is.
