The Portland Trail Blazers play host to the Detroit Pistons from the Rose Garden in prime time NBA action.
Head to head, the home team is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings and underdog is 11-4 ATS in the last 15 meetings. The Trail Blazers are 6-2-1 ATS in their last 9 vs. Eastern Conference and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall, but just 2-9 ATS in their last 11 home games. The Pistons on the other hand are 9-1-1 ATS in their last 11 road games and 11-2-1 ATS in their last 14 games overall, but just 6-16 ATS in their last 22 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record.
The Portland Trail Blazers continued their hot start to the season by defeating the Sacramento Kings on consecutive nights over the weekend to improve to 4-2 overall. Led by the duo of LaMarcus Aldridge and Damien Lillard, the Trail Blazers have been one of the better offensive teams in the league this season, averaging 103.3 points and dishing out 24.7 assists per game, which are both top ten marks. While Aldridge and Lillard get all the coverage, Wesley Matthews has been just as good, averaging 19.8 points and hitting 15-26 from long range during the their 4-1 stretch.
The Detroit Pistons come into tonight's game of back-to-back losses and as a reault fell under .500 for the first time this season. With a new coach in place and some big free agent aquisitions, it was always going to take the Pistons a while to gel and the numbers dictate that as they are in the bottom third in assists (19.2) and points allowed (101.6) while sitting just outside the bottom third in rebounding, despite their size advantage over most teams.
My love for Portland this season has been well documented, but I'm not letting that get the best of me in this one as I genuinely think they are the right side. While Detroit has some real talent and the bigs to trouble Portland, who don't defend the paint well, they are still finding their way as a team and they are coming into a hostile environment. The Trial Blazers are always rock solid at the Rose Garden and they are playing some seriously good basketball at the moment. I'm a little curious as to why the line isn't a little bit higher, but nevertheless, Portland is the play here....
