The Los Angeles Lakers look to bounce back against Anthony Davis and the New Orleans Pelicans tonight from STAPLES Center.
Head to head, the Pelicans are 5-2 ATS in the last 7 meetings and 5-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings in Los Angeles while the road team is 22-8 ATS in the last 30 meetings. The Lakers are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a losing S.U. record, but just 2-6 ATS in their last 8 vs. NBA Southwest and 3-8 ATS in their last 11 vs. Western Conference. The Pelicans on the other hand are 3-12 ATS in their last 15 road games and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400.
The Los Angeles Lakers suffered another big loss on Sunday night as they played host Kevin Love and the Minnesota Timberwolves, falling 113-90 to drop to 2-4 on the young season. While the Lakers have had some impressive outings this season, namely their wins against Houston and cross-town rivals Clippers, they have also had some blowout defeats as Sunday's loss to Minnesota marked the third time this season that Los Angeles has been beaten by 20 points or greater. A lot stems from their troubles on the defensive end as they are allowing 106.5 points per game, which is the second worst mark in the NBA.
The New Orleans Pelicans will come into tonight's showdown with a lot of confidence considering they just defeated the Lakers 96-86 in the Big Easy last Friday. Anthony Davis continued his blistering start to the season, scoring a career-high 32 points to go along with 12 rebounds and six blocks as the newly named Pelicans snapped an 11-game losing streak to Los Angeles. While Davis has had some monster games already this season, he was held in check in their 101-94 loss in Phoenix on Sunday, scoring a season-low 14 points on 5-13 shooting and pulling down 12 boards.
I hate the Lakers. Well, Iv'e never been a much fan and to compound that, I haven't gotten a game of their's right this season. I feel like they are going to be that team for me this year, the one you can never quite seem to get right. So tread carefully.
While the Cans did take down LA only a couple of days ago, the Lakers were coming off an emotional win the night before in Houston and when you go back and look at that game closer, it was tight up until the three minute mark of the final quarter. Davis did dominate Gasol in that meeting, but the Lakers have shown they can play good basketball at home while the same can't really be said for New Orleans on the road. This could go either way, but ill lay my faith in the home team in this one...
