The surprising Phoenix Suns play host the slumping Brooklyn Nets on Friday night from US Airways Center.
Head to head, the Nets are 3-9-1 ATS in the last 13 meetings in Phoenix while the home team is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings. The Suns are 7-0-1 ATS in their last 8 games overall, 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games vs. a team with a losing road record and 4-0-1 ATS in their last 5 home games. The Nets on the other hand are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a SU loss of more than 10 points, but just 0-4 ATS in their last 4 road games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall.
Who would of thought at the start of the season that the Brooklyn Nets would only be favored by a single point against a Phoenix Suns team that was expected to finish rock bottom in the Western Conference this season. If you didn't know any better and just started watching NBA basketball two a bit weeks ago, you would swear that the Suns were the team that was expected to battle the Miami Heat for supremacy in the East and not Brooklyn, who has looked flat to start the season and comes into tonight's game riding a three-game losing streak.
While the Philadelphia 76ers have been the talk of the NBA through the first couple of weeks, no team has been more impressive than Phoenix to start the season. The Suns have won five of their first eight games and as crazy as it sounds are within a half-game of the Pacific Division lead after they finished with the West's worst record last season. Even in their losses they have been impressive as they have gone down to potential playoff teams in Oklahoma City, San Antonio and most recently Portland by a combined 11 points.
I would have taken the Suns here had Brooklyn won in Sacramento the other night, but as it stands, the Nets got pounded and I have to believe they bounce back and snap their three-game losing streak. As much as I want to take Phoenix here, Brooklyn needs this win as it has the red-hot Los Angeles Clippers and Portland Trail Blazers on deck. The Suns are 4-0 at home, but they kind of surprised Portland in their home opener and since have taken down Utah, Denver and New Oreans, teams with a combined record of 7-18. Surely Brooklyn bounces back here, right?
