The New York Knicks collide with the Atlanta Hawks for the second time this week on Saturday night from Madison Square Garden.
Head to head, the Hawks are 1-4 ATS in the last 5 meetings while the road team is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings and the underdog is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings. The Knicks are 11-5 ATS in their last 16 home games vs. a team with a losing road record and 6-2 ATS in their last 8 vs. NBA Southeast, but just 0-5 ATS in their last 5 home games. The Hawks on the other hand are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 road games vs. a team with a losing home record and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall, but just 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games following a S.U. win.
I covered the game when these two teams met on Wednesday night and I took the over, which fell short thanks to a 33-point third-quarter. Who knows what happened to New York at the half-time break as they scored a mere 10 points in the third, after scoring 29 and 26 in the first two quarters. Am I going to let that one quarter put me off taking the over here again tonight, certainly not.
While I just touched on the Knicks struggles on Wednesday, it was Atlanta who were really off their game as that was the only contest this season that they haven't scored over 100 points in. Under new head coach Mike Budenholzer, the Hawks are a top three offense in the Eastern Conference thus far, averaging 104.1 points per contest. Atlanta also showed that their game against New York was a one off as they poured in 113 last night at home against the Phildelphia 76ers, who admittedly, are the worst defensive team in the league, giving up nearly 109 points per game.
Speaking of giving up points, the Knicks have been doing that a lot at home this season as their opponents have averaged 110 points at Madison Square Garden. In fact, the over has gone 4-1 in their five home games thus far and the average total in their last four has been 208 points.
I don't think that it's a forgone conclusion that this game goes over, but I think the odds are in our favor given how the Knicks totals have gone at home this season and the fact that Atlanta is nearly a lock to score 100 points on any given night...
