Detroit Pistons vs. Atlanta Hawks - 11/22/13

Kevin Liles-USA TODAY Sports

I wasn’t sure about this Detroit Pistons squad coming into the season and after nearly a month of action, I’m still not sure. While it is still very early going, I don’t think there has been a game yet this season where I have walked away impressed with them. There numbers have been very average across the board as they rank in the bottom third in the league in every major statistical category, which is pretty rare to find. Things could very well turnaround for this young team still getting adjusted to a new coach and new players, but I doubt we are looking at a playoff team.

Meanwhile, the less talented Atlanta Hawks have had a fair start to their season, winning seven of their first 12 games and are coming off a 93-85 win on Wednesday over tonight’s opponent in the Pistons. In a surprise to many, the Hawks coming into tonight’s game as a top ten offense, averaging 102.3 points per game under new head coach Mike Budenholzer. A big part of Atlanta’s early success has been attributed to their unselfish play as they are dishing out 25.7 assists per game, which ranks third in the NBA. Point guard Jeff Teague is also another big reason why the Hawks have been solid early, averaging team and career-highs with 18.4 points and 8.7 assists per game.

While I flirted with taking the under, I’ve settle on the Hawks in this one. Detroit is going to want payback after their loss in Atlanta on Wednesday and they might get it, but I see this one going down to the wire. I wouldn’t touch this game personally, but I’m taking my chances with Atlanta...
