The Los Angeles Lakers head to Atlanta on Monday to face the Atlanta Hawks.
The Atlanta Hawks are currently sitting at 12-12 this season, as the Hawks currently trail the Heat by 5.5 games in the Southeast standings. Atlanta is averaging 99.6 points per game this season, and defensively the Hawks are also allowing 99.6 points per game, something you rarely see in the NBA. The Hawks have struggled somewhat after a strong start, but the Hawks have rebounded a bit, winning three out of their last five heading into Monday’s meeting with the Lakers. Last time out, the Hawks fell to the Knicks in New York, 111-106 on Saturday.

The Los Angeles Lakers are currently 11-12 on the year, and on the road, the Lakers are just in the red, going 5-6 so far this season. The Lakers are averaging triple digits offensively this season, but the defense for the Lakers is atrocious, as Los Angeles is ranked 29th in the league in scoring defense, giving up an average of 103.5 points per game on the year. The Lakers are just 2-3 in their last five, but L.A. did get a solid win last time out, defeating the Bobcats in Charlotte on Saturday, 88-85.
The Lakers are 6-1 against the spread in their last seven games against the Eastern Conference, and the Lakers are 5-1 against the spread in their last six road games. The Lakers are just 2-5 against the spread in their last seven games when their opponent is coming off a game where they score 100+ points.
The Hawks are an impressive 10-1 against the spread in their last 11 games when playing on a single days rest and the Hawks are 5-1 against the spread in their last six games against the Pacific division. The home team is 9-3 against the spread in the last 12 meetings between the Hawks and the Lakers.
I’m going to take the points with the Lakers in this spot. Los Angeles seems to have some new life with Kobe back in the lineup, and I just don’t like the way the Hawks match up with L.A.
I don’t know if the Lakers will have enough to get the outright win over the Hawks, but getting two buckets, with the better rebounding team, and with Kobe now on the floor, looks like the side to be on here on Monday.
