The Denver Nuggets hope to turn things around with a visit from the Phoenix Suns on Friday night.
Head to head, the Suns are 2-7-1 ATS in the last 10 meetings and 0-4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings in Denver while the home team is 19-6-1 ATS in the last 26 meetings and the favorite is 9-3-1 ATS in the last 13 meetings. The Nuggets are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games following a S.U. loss, but just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games overall. The Suns on the other hand are 10-2 ATS in their last 12 road games, 18-7-1 ATS in their last 26 vs. Western Conference and 18-7-1 ATS in their last 26 games overall.
I bet you didn't know that the Phoenix Suns were the league's best team at covering the spread, having gone an amazing 17-6-1 ATS in their 24 games thus far. That's mighty impressive for a team that was predicted to finish at the bottom of the Western Conference before the season started. What's more impressive, the Suns have done most of their damage away from home as they have covered in 10 of their 12 road games to date.
On the flip side, the Denver Nuggets are just 4-7 ATS at the Pepsi Center this season, which is usually a fortress for them. Since returning from a six-game road trip, Denver has alternated wins and losses and with their 105-93 defeat to Oklahoma City on Tuesday night, have now dropped four of their last seven overall. A main problem as has been their offense as they have averaged just 93 points over their last seven games, which is eight points below their season average.
I expect a much better performance out of the Nuggets tonight, but this Phoenix team is for real. The Suns have won and covered in three of their last four away from home, which includes a 97-88 victory in Houston at the start of the month. Among other stellar road performances include going down in San Antonio and Portland by a combined four points. Oh, and did I mention that the Suns have already defeated the Nuggets this season 114-103 in Phoenix?
It wouldn't surprise me in the least to see Denver win this one by five points, but the Suns have just been to good to ignore...
