The Memphis Grizzlies head to Houston on Thursday to face off against the Rockets.
The Houston Rockets are sitting at 19-11 this season, trailing the San Antonio Spurs by just 3.5 games in the Southwest. The Rockets have one of the most dangerous offenses in the league this season, currently ranking second in the NBA in points scored per game, averaging a very impressive 106.5. The defense is the issue for the Rockets as Houston is giving up 102.3 points per game on average. The Rockets have won three out of their last five heading into Thursday’s meeting with the Grizzlies, with their latest win coming on Wednesday on the road at San Antonio.

The Memphis Grizzlies have been disappointing this season, as the Grizzlies have a record of 12-15 on the year, while going 6-5 on the road this season. The Grizzlies are known for their defense and once again Memphis is strong defensively, holding opponents to an average of 97.1 points per game. The issue with Memphis is their consistency, and their offense. The Grizzlies are putting up just 94 points per game on the year, and no matter how good you are defensively, if you can’t score, you probably won’t go far in the playoffs.
The Memphis Grizzlies are 1-4 against the spread in their last five games following an outright win, and the Grizzlies are just 1-4 against the spread in their last five games following an ATS win. The Grizzlies are 0-6 against the spread in their last six games against a team with a winning overall record.
The Houston Rockets are an impressive 6-1 against the spread when playing off of no rest, but Houston is 0-6 against the spread in their last six games when following an outright win. The Rockets are also 0-5 against the spread following an ATS win.
I’ll go ahead and take the over in this one. I can see why the odds makers made this number as low as they did, with Houston coming off no rest, and the Grizzlies being almost a pure defensive team.
Houston plays well off of no rest however, and the Grizzlies likely will have trouble shutting down the Rockets offense, so look for Memphis to up the tempo to try and keep pace.
