The Los Angeles Clippers return home to face the Utah Jazz on Saturday night from STAPLES Center.
Head to head, the Jazz are 13-5 ATS in the last 18 meetings while the home team is 22-7 ATS in the last 29 meetings and the favorite is 13-5 ATS in the last 18 meetings. The Clippers are 21-8 ATS in their last 29 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400, 5-2 ATS in their last 7 home games and 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games overall. The Jazz on the other hand are 9-22-1 ATS in their last 32 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600, 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 vs. Western Conference.
Christmas time wasn't the kindest to the Los Angeles Clippers who suffered two heart-breaking losses in a row at Golden State and Portland over the festive period. The Clippers had been playing some of their best basketball of the season coming into into the Christmas holidays, having won five straight and seven of eight overall. However, they couldn't get across the line against the Warriors on Christmas day and then the following day in overtime against the Trail Blazers, losing both by a combined six points.
The Utah Jazz haven't been half bad lately, having won five of their last nine overall. Even more impressive, the Jazz have won four of their last seven away from the confines of EnergySolutions Arena. A big reason for their recent turnaround has been the injection of rookie point-guard Trey Burke who as of this morning, sits atop of the new rookie rankings over at ESPN. Burke has averaged 14.8 points, six assists and 3.8 rebounds over his last 10 games.
The Jazz have won four of seven on the road, but they also have blowout losses in Miami and Atlanta during that span, so it's not like they haven't been getting blown out either. While they have the talent to keep this one close if Burke and Hayward are hitting their shots, I think they are in a bad spot with LA coming off two close road losses. Also don't forget that prior to their overtime win over Minnesota, the Clippers had won three straight at home over Denver, New Orleans and San Antonio by an average of 19 points.
There is always the chance of the old backdoor coming into play late, like in most double-digit spreads. But I think Los Angeles come out and bury the Jazz early and cruise to a big win....
