The Denver Nuggets play host to the Philadelphia 76ers to get the New Year started.
Head to head, the 76ers are 5-2 ATS in the last 7 meetings and 4-0 ATS in the last 4 meetings in Denver while the underdog is 5-2 ATS in the last 7 meetings and the road team is 13-3 ATS in the last 16 meetings. The Nuggets are 3-9 ATS in their last 12 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400, 2-6 ATS in their last 8 home games and 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games overall. The 76ers on the other hand are 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games following a ATS win, 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games and 3-12 ATS in their last 15 games overall.
Well it looks like the fortress that was the Pepsi Center is no longer as the Denver Nuggets slumped to 7-7 at home on the season following their 97-94 defeat by the Miami Heat on Monday night. In fact, their form overall has been really poor as they own the leagues longest losing streak at seven games and as a result, have dropped to 14-16 overall. On the brightside, they are hosting a Philadelphia 76ers team that is 2-13 on the road this season, and that's even with their 111-104 win in Los Angeles over the Lakers on Sunday night.
If you had bet on these teams over the last couple of weeks then you wouldn't have been doing too well as they are a combined 4-21 against the spread. Not only that, but the Nuggets are just 2-6 ATS in their last eight home games while the 76ers are just 1-4 ATS in their last five road games.
I was originally leaning towards Philly here, but something tells me the Nuggets get the cover here. While Denver has indeed lost seven straight, this is actually a good spot to take them because you know they are going to be desperate for a big win tonight. The Nuggs have played a really tough schedule lately and it helps that they are coming up against the worst road team in all of basketball. Before the 76ers win in LA on Sunday, they had lost their previous 13 games away from home by an average of 13.5 points per game.
I'll be staying away from this one, but I think the Nuggets are due for a big home win...
