The Golden State Warriors look for their ninth straight victory as they head to Washington to face the Wizards tonight.
Head to head, the Underdog is 5-2 ATS in the last 7 meetings. The Wizards are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games following a S.U. loss, but just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 vs. Western Conference and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games vs. a team with a winning S.U. record. The Warriors on the other hand are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following a ATS loss and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games playing on 1 days rest, but just 3-7 ATS in their last 10 Sunday games.
What's going on with the 2014 Washington Wizards? After finishing 2013 winning five of their last six games, the Wizards have opened the new year with two double-digit home losses to Dallas and most recently Toronto on Friday night. What's more puzzling are their offensive numbers as they averaged 105 points per game in their last six games of 2013, but managed just 78 against the Mavericks and then 88 against the surging Raptors. I know it's only two games, but it quite bizarre given that no injuries have occurred over the last couple of weeks and both games were at home. Plus, it's not like Dallas and Toronto are defensive powerhouses.
On the other hand, the Golden State Warriors are a perfect 2-0 in new year and are winners of eight straight, which is a league-high by a long way. Having said that, the Warriors are lucky to have their streak still alive as they needed a buzzer-beating three-pointer by Andre Iguodala as time expired to give them a 101-100 victory over the Atlanta Hawks on Friday night. The win over Atlanta was just one night after their impressive 123-114 road win over Lebron James and the reigning champion Miami Heat.
I would of loved to take the over here, but the Wizards last two stinkers have put me off. There is every chance they bounce back with a good offensive performance tonight, but you just don't know.
Truth is, I really want to take Washington and the points, but I just can't bring myself to do it. The Hawks covered as three point dogs on Friday night, but that was a bit of a letdown spot for Golden State and they really should've lost that one. I'm going with Stephen Curry and the hotter team, but I don't feel all that great about it...
