The Minnesota Timberwolves square off against the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday night from the Target Center.
Head to head, the Suns are 6-2 ATS in the last 8 meetings in Minnesota while the road team is 5-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings. The Timberwolves are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games playing on 1 days rest and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games overall, but just 6-19-1 ATS in their last 26 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600. The Suns on the other hand are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600, 12-4 ATS in their last 16 road games and 23-9-1 ATS in their last 33 games overall.
I'm trying to decide what I like more, Phoenix or the over. Granted, 213 points is a lot, but here we have the second ranked offense in Minnesota going up against the Suns, who own the league's eighth best offense. Not only that, but Timerwolves home games of late have been soaring over the total as their last five at the Target Center have averaged a total of 221 points, and that includes that 100-98 loss to the Dallas Mavericks to close out 2013. The Suns were held in check last night in Chicago, but this is a team that likes to get up and down the court with the best of them and they managed to score 215 or better in four of their previous seven games prior to Tuesday night.
Phoenix also failed to cover the spread against the Bulls, but that was just the fourth time in 16 road games this season they have failed to do so. That's right, this young team is 12-4 against the spread on the road despite dropping two of three in Golden State and obviously Chicago. The Minnesota Timberwolves are still hovering around the .500 mark, but when they win, they win big as their last five victories have come by an average of 19.6 points.
I do like the Suns to cover, but I don't like the fact that when the Timberwolves win, it's usually by a lot and frankly, I think Minnesota is going to win this one. If your not totally sure about the total, then just look at the Timberwolves home games over the last couple of weeks and that should give you a bit more confidence...
