The Detroit Pistons square off against the Phoenix Suns on Saturday night from the Palace of Auburn Hills.
Head to head, the home team is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings and favorite is 5-2 ATS in the last 7 meetings. The Pistons are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 home games, 7-24-1 ATS in their last 32 vs. Western Conference and 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games overall. The Suns on the other hand are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games playing on 0 days rest, 13-5 ATS in their last 18 road games and 24-10-1 ATS in their last 35 games overall.
Thank god the Detroit Pistons finally broke their losing streak last night by taking down the Philadelphia 76ers 114-104. To put it bluntly, the Pistons have been the worst team in the entire league since Christmas, losing six straight before last night's win by an average of 17 points per game. What's worse, none of those six teams they faced had a record better than .500 (Toronto was the best team at 17-17). Meanwhile, the Phoenix Suns are coming off a hard-fought 104-99 defeat in Memphis last night and have now alternated wins and losses in their last five games.
I don't really have any lean on this game as far as picking a side goes. I mean, are you going to trust a Detroit team that had just lost eight of nine and their last home game to Memphis by 26 points? While Phoenix still owns an amazing against the spread record away from home, this will be their fourth road game in five nights and I think they may struggle with the size of this Pistons team.
Even though Detroit has cooled off lately, the over is still a whopping 27-10 for them this season. More importantly, the over is 14-4 in their 18 home games. This Pistons have just been brutal on the defensive end these past couple of weeks, giving up an average of 106.7 points over their last 17 games. As far as the Suns are concerned, if you take away that 92-87 loss in Chicago, they have still averaged 105.3 points over their last six games, most of which Eric Bledsoe has been missing for. Phoenix has also given up 104 and 103 points in their last two outings in Minnesota and Memphis, respectively.
I don't see a whole lot of defense being played in this one and if previous Pistons home games are any indication, this one will sail over the total too...
