Golden State Warriors vs. Indiana Pacers - 1/20/14

Cary Emondson-USA TODAY Sports

For all the Golden State Warriors recent success, their play at home this season hasn’t been all that great as they have covered the spread in just six of their 16 games at Oracle Arena. After narrowly taking care of the visiting Boston Celtics, thanks to a game-winning jumper by Stephen Curry, the Warriors then dropped their next home game to the Denver Nuggets 123-116 last Wednesday night. Meanwhile, the Indiana Pacers have been just about the best road team in the NBA thus far, going 11-6 straight up and against the spread in their 17 games away from home. I think this contest could go either way, so I’m going to look at a total instead.

After failing to score over 95 points in five of their first six games of 2014, the Pacers have since exploded on the offensive end, averaging 113 points over their last three matches (Granted they were against the Clippers, Knicks and Kings), which just so happens to be around the time that Lance Stephenson returned from injury. While Golden State hasn’t really been the offensive juggernaut we all expected them to be this season, they haven’t been that far off and they have eclipsed 115 points in two of their past three contests. The Warriors are also averaging  107.5 points over their last nine overall.

While Indiana is obviously the premier defensive unit in the league at the moment and the Warriors have improved on that side of the ball with a healthy Andrew Bogut and the addition of Andre Iguodala, I don’t see this game being a defensive tussle. The Pacers have shown us they can put up a big total if need be and Golden State loves a good ole fashioned shoot out. This should be the game of the day and I think it’s going to be an entertaining battle, with enough points for the over to hit...
