The Orlando Magic play host to the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday night from Amway Center.
Head to head, the Lakers are 8-3 ATS in the last 11 meetings in Orlando while the road team is 12-5-1 ATS in the last 18 meetings and the favorite is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings. The Magic are 2-12 ATS in their last 14 vs. Western Conference, 6-13 ATS in their last 19 home games and 3-10 ATS in their last 13 games overall. The Lakers on the other hand are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 road games, 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games playing on 0 days rest and 6-0 ATS in their last six games overall.

From an against the spread stand point, the Los Angeles Lakers have a massive edge over their opponents in the Orlando Magic tonight as they have covered in five straight road games and in their last six overall. Meanwhile, the Magic are just 6-13 against the spread in their last 19 games at home and 3-10 ATS overall. Los Angeles is also playing better basketball than Orlando at the moment, having split their last four games, although they were very unlucky not to win in Chicago in overtime on Monday night and they did play Miami tough last night. Having said all of that, I’ll be taking the Magic here for a couple of reasons:
Firstly, this is a pretty bad spot for LA as they will be playing in a back-to-back and this will be their sixth straight road game since the 15th of this month. Looking a little further, they have actually only played one game at STAPLES Center since the 6th, so it’s fair to say we could see a tired Lakers squad tonight. Not only that, but it would be pretty hard playing the Miami Heat on national TV, then having to ‘get up’ to play the lowly Magic the next very night. Secondly, Orlando has actually been playing pretty decent at home since returning from their Western Conference road trip, despite winning just one out of four at Amway Center. They did take down Boston and if you take their 111-101 loss to Charlotte away, the other two contest were against Chicago (triple OT) and Atlanta, both of which were losses by three points. The point being, if a couple of bounces had gone their way, they could of won three out of their last four at home. Hindsight is a wonderful thing isn’t it.
So there you have it. Given LA has been on the road for a while now and the fact that Orlando has been decent at home of late, the Magic are the pick here...
