NBA fans should be in for a treat Friday night when the Oklahoma City Thunder head up north to play the Brooklyn Nets. Both teams have turned things around quickly, as the Thunder are riding a red hot nine-game winning streak and the Nets have won five of their last six.
What can you say about OKC?
Mark D. Smith-USA TODAY Sports
Kevin Durant continues to amaze with his streak of 30-point games, Serge Ibaka is playing well and even Jeremey Lamb off the bench is contributing double-digit points. Oklahoma City is playing its best basketball of the season and shooting nearly 53 percent in its last five games. When you add 46.2 percent from downtown, the Thunder are nearly impossible to beat right now.
The Nets have only lost two games in the month of January and both came to the Toronto Raptors. Joe Johnson has been crazy hot for the last couple of weeks and even Paul Pierce had a blast from the past when he dropped 33 points against Toronto in a losing effort. The offense has picked up recently, but it’s the defense that is holding opponents to under 92 points in their last five games that has been really impressive. Guys are committed and finally playing with more confidence.
Call me nuts, but I’m taking the Nets and the points. This is a different team with Deron Williams and Andrei Kirilenko on the court. They are starting to believe in themselves and have won seven of their last eight at home. The Thunder are due for a letdown after an emotional game against the Miami Heat and the older Nets are well rested considering they haven’t played since Monday.
For what it’s worth, the Nets also won the previous meeting earlier in the year 95-92.
I think Brooklyn can pull this out SU, but I’ll gladly take the points.
