The Detroit Pistons travel down to South Beach to take on the Miami Heat Monday night. This will be the third meeting between the two teams this season, as they split the first two games.
The Heat continue to play inconsistent basketball and come off as a box of chocolates. You simply aren’t sure what you’re going to get. Still, they’re shooting an insane 54.5 percent from the field in their last five games and have turned up their defensive intensity as of late. They held a hot Knicks offense to just 91 points and forced 17 turnovers, including seven from Carmelo Anthony. In the same game, Dwyane Wade showed signs of life, finishing with 22 points on 10 of 15 shooting.

The Pistons have lost four of their last six games and a lot of it has to do with poor defense. They’re ranked 24th in the league in points allowed per game (102.7) and have lost five straight when allowing more than 100 points. The offense has also had a hard time scoring, as they’re shooting just 44.7 percent from the field and 29.7 percent from downtown in their last five games. That doesn’t even include a horrible 66.5 percent from the free throw line.
When capping this game you have to be concerned with the rebounding advantage Detroit has over Miami. The Heat are dead last in the league with an average of 36.7 boards, while the Pistons are eighth with 45 rebounds. However, Detroit plays absolutely no defense and Miami has been shooting lights out from the field. With the way the Heat turned it up defensively, this one could get ugly in the AmericanAirlines Arena.
The Pistons are just 10-21-1 against the spread in their last 32 games against Miami.
I’m concerned with Miami’s inconsistency, but it shouldn’t have a problem covering the number if it decides to show up.
