San Antonio’s first stop of a nine-game road trip will be New Orleans to take on a Pelican team that has won four of their last five games. The Spurs have been heading in the opposite direction, losing four of their last six and also losing guard Manu Ginobili until late February with a hamstring injury.
The good news is that the Spurs have been losing to solid basketball teams, so it’s not like they have completely fallen off. Oklahoma City, Miami, Atlanta and Chicago are all worthy opponents that shouldn’t really raise a red flag. The problem is that they haven’t been scoring points the way they have all season since the injuries. In their last five games, they’re scoring just 95.4 points and shooting only 34.7 percent from downtown. That’s not nearly the same as the team that averages close to 104 points per game on the season.

The Pelicans have been beating up on some weak competition, but they did impress in a recent win over Chicago. They shot 47.5 percent against a solid Bulls defense and won the game by nine points. Anthony Davis has really taken his game to another level and the defense hasn’t allowed a 90-point performance in three straight games.
With the way the Spurs are banged up, it’s hard to take them to cover anything at the moment, especially against a much younger New Orleans team that is playing great basketball recently. San Antonio is just 1-4 against the spread in its last five games and New Orleans is 1-4 ATS in its last five.
Also, the Pelicans have covered their last five games on one day’s rest, and the home team is 23-8 against the spread in the last 31 meetings between these two teams.
New Orleans plus money is a gift with the way both teams have been playing.
