The Dallas Mavericks will put their five-game winning streak on the line when they play the Charlotte Bobcats Tuesday at the Time Warner Cable Arena. This will be the second and final meeting between the two teams this season, as Dallas won the first one 89-82 back in early December.
The Mavericks have really been on a tear as of late and are 10 games above a .500 record for the first time since they won the NBA Championship. They’ve scored more than 100 points in eight straight games and are getting nice production out of Monta Ellis, who has scored at least 20 points in three of his last five games. Defensively, the Mavs hold teams to an average of 102.1 points per game on 46.2 percent shooting. They are 30-22 against the spread and 18-8 ATS on the road.

The Bobcats have also been playing better than expected basketball, as they’ve won three of their last five contests. During that time they’re averaging 99.4 points and shooting 45.6 percent from the field. But it’s been the defense that has won them games, as they hold teams to 97.1 points per game on 44 percent shooting. They’ve allowed only two 100-point performances in their last six games. They are 28-21-2 against the spread and 12-13 ATS at home.
This game will come down to whether or not the Bobcats defense can slowdown a Dallas offense that has been on fire. But while that’s the key, let’s not sleep on a Charlotte offense that has improved thanks to Al Jefferson and Kemba Walker. Jefferson has been a double-double machine all year and Walker has a combined 15 assists in his first two games since returning from injury.
I’m taking the points here. The Bobcats are 4-1 ATS in their last five games and have been a tough out all season. Just look at their four-point loss against San Antonio on Saturday for more evidence of that.
This is a different Charlotte team.
