NBA Trade Updates: Potential Moves and Hot Topic Players Involved in Deadline Talks
February 19, 2014
With the NBA’s trade deadline looming tomorrow, we’re sure to see a slew of last-minute deals and offers floating around everywhere within the next day or so. With that in mind, let’s take a look at some of the key players who have been the subject of rampant rumors during this trade season and try to figure out where they may end up (if anywhere).
Rajon Rondo, PG, Boston Celtics: Rondo has been probably the biggest name involved in trade talks this season, and a potential deal is still possible--but not all that likely. He heads the class of would-be point guards available in trades, however the Celtics are asking a king’s ransom for him (multiple first-round picks and a prospect).
Still, teams like the Knicks, Raptors and Kings have been making a pitch for Rondo but none has offered up quite the bounty the Celtics desire. We doubt anything will happen at this late stage, but hey--stranger things have occurred in the crazy world of the NBA trade deadline.

Omer Asik, C, Houston Rockets: It looks like the Rockets are making one last-ditch push to unload Asik before the impending deadline. They’re asking for a first-round draft pick, which seems pretty unlikely given his hefty salary ($8.4 million both this year and next year).
Philadelphia has been mentioned as a potential trade partner, but they--and pretty much everyone else in the league--would be unlikely to give up a first-rounder here. The teams previously discussed this deal back in December, so they’ve got some groundwork there already.
Jeff Teague, PG, Atlanta Hawks: Wherever Teague ends up--if he goes anywhere, that is--he probably won’t end up going to the Big Apple. The Knicks are expected to pass on him, thanks to his contract--specifically the three years and $24 million remaining on it.
The Knicks had shown some interest in Teague, and they have a strong desire to fix their PG slot (Raymond Felton just isn’t cutting it), but the team doesn’t want to saddle themselves with all that salary in advance of the 2015 free-agent period.
Jarrett Jack, PG/SG, Cleveland Cavaliers: Jack isn’t having the greatest of seasons so far, but that hasn’t stopped him from garnering all sorts of interest on the trade market. The Nets have shown a strong desire in wanting to land him, and have reportedly been trying to swap for Jason Terry.
That said, there’s apparently some competition for Jack’s services. The Kings have thrown their name into the hat as potential suitors and are expected to make a push for the combo guard in these closing days. Stay tuned.
Nets-Kings Potential Trade: There’s another potential deal out there centered around the Nets and Kings. They’ve reportedly been talking about a trade that would send the Kings’ Marcus Thornton to Brooklyn for Reggie Evans and the aforementioned Jason Terry.
Sacramento isn’t getting a whole lot of minutes out of Thornton, who would potentially get more work with the Nets. Terry, meanwhile, has been attached to pretty much every rumor involving Brooklyn, so there’s no telling what will happen with him.
