The Line: Detroit Pistons -4.5 -- Over/Under: 206 See the Latest Odds
Two teams in need of a win collide on Monday night as the Detroit Pistons host the New York Knicks.
Head to head, the Knicks are 19-7 ATS in the last 26 meetings while the home team is 6-2 ATS in the last 8 meetings and the favorite is 14-3 ATS in the last 17 meetings. The Pistons are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400 and 11-3-1 ATS in their last 15 vs. NBA Atlantic, but just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 home games. The Knicks on the other hand are 2-7 ATS in their last 9 road games, 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games playing on 0 days rest and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall.
If you had just taken the over in every Detroit Pistons games this season, you would be doing pretty well for yourself as it has hit in 42 of their 59 games to date, which is a remarkable number when you think about it. It's really not that surprising either because the Pistons both score a lot of points and give up a heap themselves and are coming off a Texas road trip where they allowed their opponents to score 120 and 118 points respectively. In fact, this Detroit team has allowed 107 points or greater in each of their last seven games, this team is just a total mess defensively, despite their size and athleticism. The over has also hit in 20 of their last 26 games at the Palace.
Talking about poor defensive squads, the New York Knicks are right there with them as they have conceded an average of 114.8 points over their last six contests. Hell, they even let the offensively challenged Chicago Bulls pour in 109 big ones in their loss last night in the Windy City. As a result of their poor defensive numbers, the over has hit in seven of their last nine road games and four of five overall.
The one major concern I do have regarding this game is that their two meetings this season have been very low scoring, finishing on totals of 178 and 174, respectively. For whatever reason, both teams have struggled to score against each other, despite being very poor defensive teams.
Regardless of their two meetings this season, I just can't look past how many points both these squads have allowed lately. I don't have the numbers with me, but I would assume they would be ranked as the 29th and 30th defenses these past two weeks. Detroit's playing, i'll take the over again thanks...
