In what should be one of the ugliest games on the NBA schedule, the Philadelphia 76ers will take on the Oklahoma City Thunder. These teams met back in January, and the Thunder won 103-91.
The 76ers are still doing an incredible job of tanking, as they’ve now lost 14 straight games. Their best chance to win a game came on Sunday against the Orlando Magic, and they still lost by 11 points despite having a nine-point lead in the third quarter. They’re averaging 99.9 points on the season and are allowing 110.7 points. On the road, they average just 98.6 points and give up 109.4 points. They are 22-38 ATS overall and 14-15 ATS on the road.

The Thunder have now won two straight games and five of their last eight. In their last five games since Russell Westbrook returned, they’re averaging 106.2 points on 46.6 percent shooting and are allowing 109.6 points on 49.7 percent shooting. They’re also turning the ball over 16.4 times per game during that stretch. At home, they average 106.7 points and allow 98.8 points. They are also 33-26-1 ATS overall and 16-14-1 ATS on their home court.
There’s little doubt that the Thunder are going to spank the 76ers. The question is how bad is it going to be? The spread reminds me of the Denver Broncos-Jacksonville Jaguars spread from last season.
Sure, the 76ers are god-awful and seem to be losing on purpose at this point, but 20-plus points is a lot to ask for from anybody. At the very least, we’re looking at a backdoor cover.
The Thunder are only 6-9 ATS when favored by double digits and the 76ers are 7-8 ATS when being considered a double-digit dog.
I’d tread this spread carefully, but I just can’t turn down 20 free points in an NBA game.
