The Brooklyn Nets and Boston Celtics will play for the third time this season, as Paul Pierce and company return to the TD Garden for the second time. The Nets have won the previous two meetings this season.
The Nets have actually been playing pretty solid basketball as of late, winning five of their last six games. During this stretch, they’re averaging 99.6 points on 45.8 percent shooting and are allowing 97 points on 45.3 percent shooting. The defense has picked up a bit, and they’re also taking better care of the basketball, averaging less than 14 turnovers. On the road, they average 95.3 points and allow 100.6 points. They are 31-28 ATS overall and 14-15 ATS on the road.

The Celtics have been, well, the Celtics. Losing seven of their last eight games, they simply can’t wait for the season to end. Their stats from their last five games include 99.2 points on 42.7 percent shooting and 105.8 points allowed on 50.7 percent shooting. They’ve allowed 100 or more points in eight straight games, which isn’t going to lead to many victories when they average just 95.3 points on the season. At home, they score 95.9 points and give up 97.7 points. They are 29-31-1 ATS overall and 13-17-1 ATS at home.
Kevin Garnett won’t participate in this matchup, but I’m not even sure that matters. The Nets still have more than enough firepower to win this game by at least six or seven points. It’s clear the Celtics don’t have much fight left in them and are already preparing for what they’ll be doing during the offseason.
New Jersey has covered its last four games and is 4-1-1 ATS in the last six meetings against Boston.
Take the small chalk while you can, because the price is likely going to rise closer to tipoff.
