The Utah Jazz and the Detroit Pistons face off on Monday in Salt Lake City NBA action.
The Utah Jazz are in second to last place in the Western Conference standings and are tied for the fifth worst overall record in the NBA. The Jazz are coming off of a win but they are 2-8 in their last 10 games. Gordon Heyward is Utah’s leading scorer averaging 15.7 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 5.2 assists per game. Derrick Favors is averaging 12.9 points and 8.6 rebounds, Trey Burke is averaging 12.8 points and 5.3 assists, and Enes Kanter is averaging 2.1 points and 6.9 rebounds. Utah is averaging 94.5 points and they are shooting 44.2 percent including 35.4 percent from beyond the three-point arc while defensively they are allowing 101.2 points and their opponents are shooting 46.9 percent. Utah got off to the worst start this season and they have never been able to recover.

The Detroit Pistons have lost five games in a row and are 2-8 in their last 10. The Pistons are 6.5 games out from the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference and they are 10-23 on the road this season. Josh Smith leads the Pistons averaging 16.5 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. Brandon Jennings is averaging 16 points and 7.7 assists, Greg Monroe is averaging 14.9 points and 9.2 rebounds, and Andre Drummond is averaging 13.2 points and 12.8 rebounds. The Pistons are averaging 100.8 points and they are shooting 44.8 percent while defensively they are allowing 1-3.9 points and their opponents are shooting 46.8 percent. The Pistons are on the cusp of being a playoff caliber team but they are a player or two away.
Utah is 2-5-1 against the spread in their last eight home games against a team with a losing road record, 1-4-1 against the spread in their last six games, and 2-5 against the spread against a team with a losing record. Detroit is 5-2 against the spread against the Western Conference, 2-11-1 against the spread against the NBA Northwest, and 0-4 against the spread against a team with a losing home record. Detroit is 3-7 against the spread in the spread in the last 10 meetings of these two and the Jazz have covered the point spread in the last four meetings of these two.
While Detroit looks to be bottoming out I look for them to rise to the occasion and get the win here.
