The Utah Jazz and the Portland Trailblazers face off on Friday in Utah in NBA action.
The Utah Jazz have the worst record in the Western Conference and while that means only the fifth worst record in the NBA, it is nothing they had hoped for. The Jazz are 16-23 at home this season, 2-8 in their last 10 games, and they have lost their last two. Gordon Hayward leads Utah averaging 16 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 5.2 assists, Alec Burks is averaging 14 points, Derrick Favors is averaging 13.1 points and 8.7 rebounds, and Trey Burke is averaging 12.4 points ad 5.5 assists. As a team the Jazz are averaging 94.3 points and they are shooting 44.2 percent while defensively they are allowing 101.5 points and their opponents are shooting 47.4 percent. The Jazz should get some immediate help in the NBA Draft.

The Portland Trailblazers are in fifth place in the Western Conference playoff standings and it doesn’t look like there will be much movement from that position. The Trailblazers are 22-18 on the road, 6-4 in their last 10 games, and they have won their last two games. LaMarcus Aldridge leads Portland averaging 23.3 points and 11.1 rebounds, Damian Lillard is averaging 21 points and 5.6 assists, and Wesley Mathews is averaging 16.3 points. As a team the Trailblazers are averaging 106.5 points and they are shooting 44.9 percent while defensively they are allowing 102.6 points and their opponents are shooting 45.1 percent. The Blazers look like they will be matching up against the Rockets in the first round of the NBA Playoffs.
Utah is 2-6-1 against the spread against a team with a winning record, 0-3-2 against the spread following a loss, and 0-4-2 against the spread in their last six games. Portland is 4-1 against the spread in their last five road games, 2-5 against the spread against a team with a losing record, and 4-1 against the spread playing on one days rest. The road team has covered the point spread in four of the last five meetings of these two.
Portland is favored here for good reason but with little to gain or lose they might be less than inspired so I like the points.
