The New York Knicks and the Chicago Bulls face off on Sunday at Madison Square Garden in NBA action.
The New York Knicks are on the outside looking in at the playoffs but they helped the Bulls by beating the Raptors in their last game. The Knicks are 17-22 at home, 5-5 in their last 10 games, and they are two games out for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Carmelo Anthony leads the Knicks averaging 27.6 points and 8.2 rebounds per game, J.R. Smith is averaging 14.2 points, and Amare Stoudemire is averaging 11.9 points and 5.0 rebounds. The Knicks are averaging 98.5 points and they are shooting 44.9 percent while defensively they are allowing 99.6 points and their opponents are shooting 45.9 percent. The Knicks have a lot of question marks going forward.
USA TODAY Sports
The Chicago Bulls are now the three seed in the Eastern Conference playoff seedings and control their own destiny in that regard. The Bulls are 9-1 in their last 10 games, a game ahead of Toronto in the standings, and they have won seven games in a row. Joakim Noah is averaging 12.5 points, 11.2 rebounds, and 5.3 assists, Carlos Boozer is averaging 13.8 points and 8.2 rebounds, and D.J. Augustin is averaging 14.9 points and 5.1 assists. As a team the Bulls are averaging 93.6 points and they are shooting 43.2 percent while defensively they are allowing 91.7 points and their opponents are shooting 43 percent. The Bulls don’t always make it look pretty but they get it done.
New York is 2-6 against the spread playing on one days rest, 5-2 in their last seven games against a team with a winning record, and 5-1 against the spread after scoring 100 or more points in their previous game. Chicago is 3-0-1 against the spread in their last four road games, 20-8-1 against the spread against the Eastern Conference, and 3-1-1 against the spread against a team with a losing record. Chicago is 6-2 against the spread in the last eight meetings of these two teams.
The Bulls are a mild favorite here and I look for them to have no problem putting the Knicks away.
