The Memphis Grizzlies and the Dallas Mavericks face off on Tuesday in Memphis as both teams close out their 2013-2014 NBA regular season schedules.
The Memphis Grizzlies have clinched a playoff spot but who there next round opponent will be remains a question mark and will be directly decided by the outcome of this game. The Grizzlies are tied with the Mavs for seventh and eighth playoff spots in the Western Conference, 26-14 at home this season, and they won their last four games. Zach Randolph leads Memphis averaging 17.2 points and 10 rebounds. Mike Conley is averaging 17.1 points and 6.1 assists, and Marc Gasol is averaging 14.5 points and 7.2 rebounds. As a team the Grizzlies are averaging 96 points and they are shooting 46.4 percent including 35.5 percent from beyond the three-point arc while defensively they are allowing 94.4 points and their opponents are shooting 44.9 percent. A week ago the Grizzlies weren’t sure they would be on the post season and now they are looking at a date with the Thunder or the Spurs.

The Dallas Mavericks spent the better part of the season trying t be part of the post season and they have at least accomplished that part of their goal but now the real work starts. The mavericks are 23-17 on the road, 7-3 in their last 10 games, and are coming off of a win in their last game. Dirk Nowitzki leads Dallas averaging 21.6 points and 6.2 rebounds, Monta Ellis is averaging 19 points and 5.8 assists, and Vince Carter is averaging 12 points. As a team the Mavericks are averaging 104.8 points and they are shooting 47.4 percent while defensively they are allowing 102.4 points and their opponents are shooting 46.4 percent. Dallas has the edge in big game experience.
Memphis is 3-0-1 against the spread in their last four games, 3-8-1 against the spread following a win, and 1-7-1 against the spread against the Western Conference. Dallas is 46-19 in their last 65 road games, 2-7 against the spread following a win, and 1-4 against the spread against a team with a winning record. Dallas has covered the point spread in six of their last seven games against Memphis.
This one should be competitive but Dallas seems to match up well and I look for them to at least get the cover here.
