NBA Player Updates 5/13: Trail Blazers and Heat Win, Tonight's TV Schedule and More
May 13, 2014
The NBA Playoffs roll on tonight with a couple more games, and the anticipation is running high. We’re inching ever closer to crowning a champion for the 2013-14 season, and there’s not a whole lot of basketball left. That said, let’s take our daily look around the league and see who’s in the headlines this morning.
LeBron James, SF, Miami Heat: The Heat aren’t having too much trouble in their quest for a three-peat. They’ve got a stranglehold on their series with the rival nets, thanks to a 102-96 victory last night. James was in fine form, tying his career playoff-high with 49 points on 16-for-24 shooting.
Brooklyn, meanwhile, couldn’t get past their crummy defensive effort in the first half and was playing catch-up in the third and fourth quarters. They shot just 5-for-22 from behind the three-point line.
The series shifts back to Miami now, as Game 5 is tomorrow.

Damian Lillard, PG, Portland Trail Blazers: On the flip side of things, the Trail Blazers finally got some life in their series against the Spurs. They were on top for most of Game 4 last night, riding the wave to a 103-92 victory and winning their first contest in a 1-3 series.
Lillard tallied 25 points and LaMarcus Aldridge added 19. Nicolas Batum posted 14 points with 14 rebounds and eight assists in a great all-around effort. Tony Parker was the high man for the Spurs with 14.
Game 5 is tomorrow night in San Antonio.
Brown Out in Cleveland: We’re feeling a sense of déjà vu. The Cavaliers fired head coach Mike Brown yesterday, giving him the same fate as what happened in 2010 during his first stint with the team. He’d been hired again last April after ownership expressed regret that he was let go--and perhaps was clinging to the fact that he was the only coach to ever bring the Cavs to the Finals.
In related news, David Griffin will remain with the team as the GM full-time. Over the next few days, we’ll likely hear names like Steve Kerr, Mark Jackson and George Karl being suggested as possible candidates for the head coaching position. We’ll keep you posted.
NBA Daily Schedule: Four more teams will be out on the court tonight as the playoffs continue. Here’s a look at the complete schedule, along with the start times and TV networks carrying each game.
