NBA Player Updates 5/18: League News, Tonight's TV Schedule and More
May 18, 2014
The wait for the 2014 NBA Conference Finals is over. We’ll be getting those going out East today, so professional basketball is back on after a brief lull the past couple of days. While we’re waiting on tip-off, let’s take a closer look at some of the notable players out there. Here’s the latest.
Jackson Back With ESPN: It didn’t take ousted Golden State Warriors coach Mark Jackson long to find another job. The thing is, it isn’t with another basketball team. He’ll be returning to the ESPN NBA announcing team, where he called five straight Finals up until 2011 when he took the Warriors job. We’ll get an official announcement on it today.
There was a lot of speculation on what Jackson would do after he was fired in Golden State, most of it centered around which team he would move to next. For now at least, he’ll be moving back to the familiar surroundings of the broadcast table. You can see him at the Eastern Conference and NBA Finals this year.

Draft Trends Shaping Up: The 2014 NBA Draft is still over a month away (June 26), but we could see a lot of activity in the meantime from teams around the league.
The general feeling around the NBA is that many teams have developed a “win now” attitude, and might be willing to trade away picks in exchange for top veterans who can help them get over the proverbial hump and closer to a championship.
One team that’s going to be on everyone’s radar is the Phoenix Suns. They’ve got a lottery pick and three more first-rounders in their possession, and considering the fact that they’re already pretty heavily weighted with rookies right now, they’ll be looking to trade away a pick or two in exchange for proven talent.
Other teams who could be sellers are the Bucks, Lakers, Kings and Cavaliers.
One thing’s for sure: It’s going to be an interesting month.
Kerr’s Plans for the Warriors: With the hire of Ex-Bull Steve Kerr as head coach this past week, the Warriors certainly made some waves around the NBA. Now the questions begin, as in: “What will a Steve-Kerr-led team look like?”
Well, we got some insight toward that late last week. The one piece Kerr is extremely happy about (and likely had a big impact on his decision to coach for Golden State over New York) is Stephen Curry. He wanted to draft the sharpshooter in 2009 with the Suns, so you can bet Kerr is eager to get things moving in his new position.
Kerr says his offense may be influenced by the triangle the Bulls ran in the ‘90s but the similarities will stop short with adjustments to today’s NBA. Look for lots of screen-and-roll and plenty of bal movement as the team maximizes its offensive potency.
NBA Daily Schedule: Today’s the day, ladies and gentlemen. The West doesn’t start until tomorrow, but the East Finals are officially here. Here’s a look at the complete schedule for the first games, along with the start times and TV networks carrying each matchup.
