The Line: Cavs 3/1 See the Latest Odds
Well, LeBron James is going back to the Cleveland Cavaliers to create the NBA’s storybook ending and hope to bring the city a championship for the first time in a million years. While it does make for good drama and what not, the only angle we care about is what it can do for out wallet.
Most books now have the Cavaliers as the overwhelming favorites to win the NBA championship. Unfortunately, if you had a magic eight ball before this story broke, you could have gotten the Cavs at odds around 60/1. Now, you’re more looking at 3/1, which is simply not great at all. That’s around the same area the Miami Heat were for much of last season.

We’ll discuss future bets later on in great detail the closer we get to the regular season and we’ll throw out a few teams that are worth a shot in the dark. However, simply looking at this Cavs roster and the weakness of the Eastern Conference, it’s probably best to take the odds at what you can get right now. On paper, the only team in the East that can compete with the Cavaliers are the Chicago Bulls, and we have no idea what Derrick Rose is going to look like, and they have no scoring.
The Cavs now have an improved James, an elite point guard in Kyrie Irving and several young talented pieces around them such as Dion Waiters and Tristan Thompson. Oh, and there are rumors out there that the Cavs are pushing to get Kevin Love from Minnesota. If that happens, you’re looking at odds in the negatives, which certainly makes the small plus money look sweet.
Unless you truly believe Carmelo Anthony is going to Chicago, Cleveland pretty much has a cakewalk through the East and free spot in the NBA Finals. Any team that is almost guaranteed a spot in the championship is great value in a future, because you have to at least make the big dance to give yourself a chance.
While the odds weren’t what they were before, it’s better to take the Cavs now while you can still get them at plus money. That may not be for long either.
