Garry looks at the winners of the NBA Free Agency

2014-2015 NBA Season

Odds to win the NBA championship See the Latest Odds

The landscape of the NBA has effectively changed through the free agency. Lebron James decided to be back at home in Cleveland, while Carmelo Anthony chose to stay in New York. Teams like the Rockets, Heat and Lakers failed to get what they wanted.

Winners in the NBA Free Agency 2014

1. Cleveland Cavaliers

Without a question, the greatest player in the NBA's return makes the Cavs the winners. In a wink of an eye, the Cavs became the favourites to win not only the Eastern Conference, but the NBA Finals, according to Bodog. Moreover, the tickets were already sold out just few hours after LeBron James announced his decision to showcase his talent back to Cleveland. Also, the economic impact of James to the entire community cannot be neglected at all.

2. Carmelo Anthony

Anthony looked for a competitive team with the biggest chance to win a championship. Finally, he stayed with the Knicks. We don't know what made him select the New York Knicks but one thing is certain, a maximum five-year contract, worth $129 million, that no other team can offer. Include the New York Knicks fans because they are about to witness the triangle offense with Anthony. Imagine the Knicks without Anthony, probably a disaster for the fans?

3. Chris Bosh

The moment James left Miami, Pat Riley offered Bosh a costly five-year $118 million contract. This makes Bosh one of the highest paid players in the NBA in the next five years. Bosh should have taken the four-year $88 million from the Houston Rockets if James stayed with the Heat. Many critics believe that Bosh market value is a lot lower than what he got.

4. San Antonio Spurs

The roster that won the 2013-2014 NBA Finals will be back for the next season. No player movements for the Spurs would only mean that they would compete and probably win the West next season. Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, Tony Parker and Kawhi Leonard will be in the roster. A third trip to the NBA Finals is imminent for the Spurs.

5. Chicago Bulls

Pau Gasol is a great addition to the struggling roster. With a healthy Derrick Rose playing with Gasol, the Bulls are immediate contenders in the East. Bulls got Gasol in a three-year contract worth only $22 million. Gasol rejected the Lakers offer of $10 million plus in two years. The acquisition of Gasol is an enhancement to the current play off bound roster.

Honorable Mentions...

We can say that LeBron James is part of the winners because he foresees the bright future of the Cavaliers and the fading of the Heat.

Phil Jackson can also be considered one of the winners. He persuaded Anthony that he can win in New York by bringing in newly hired coach Derek Fisher.

Dallas Mavericks are also winners by acquiring a legitimate shooter Chandler Parsons. He is likely the player who opens up the offense. Probably the missing player for the Mavs to beat the Spurs.
