NBA Player Updates 8/5: News From Around the League, Off-Season Schedule and More
August 5, 2014
We’ve seen some pretty crazy developments in the NBA over the past several days, and those happenings will have a definitive effect on the 2014-15 season that’s coming up. We’ve got plenty more news items materializing this morning, so with that in mind let’s take a look at the headlines and see which players are in the news right now. Here’s the latest.
Raptors Signings: We haven’t checked in on these transactions just yet, so let’s take a moment to visit with Toronto’s additions from earlier in the week.
The Raptors inked both center Lucas Nogueira and guard Will Cherry this week, though the team didn’t reveal any financial details of the signings.
Noguiera is a former 16th overall pick in the 2013 draft, and he’s bounced around from the Celtics to the Mavericks to the Hawks and now to Toronto in that time. He’s been playing in Spain since the 2009 season.
As for Cherry, he’s a Montana product who went undrafted in 2013. He played 18 games in the Development League last year, producing averages of 11.6 PPG, 3.7 RPG and 4.5 APG. He’s Montana’s all-time steals leader with 265.

Cavs-Wolves Deal?: The newest installment of the Cavaliers and Timberwolves’ potential deal for Kevin Love may be bringing the whole thing to its inevitable conclusion.
The two teams reportedly have a “handshake agreement” that will send Kevin Love to Cleveland and Andrew Wiggins (and a few other players/assets) to Minnesota. The two sides can’t make anything official until the 23rd of this month, when it’s okay by league rules to trade Wiggins.
Looks like things are all but done here--barring some unforeseen circumstance, that is. We’ll have to wait a couple more weeks to see everything through, though.
USA Basketball Cuts: The USA Basketball team had to pare their roster down a bit yesterday, which led to three more players getting cut. John Wall, Bradley Beal and Paul Millsap were all dismissed yesterday, according to reports, which gets the roster down to 16 guys.
These latest cuts had originally been slated for Saturday but in the wake of Paul George’s gruesome injury the team held things off a couple of days.
NBA 2014 Off-Season Schedule: It’ll be a long off-season, but we’ll have plenty of happenings (and rumors) around the league to keep us busy. The major events this summer will be the NBA Draft and the free agency period, so let’s check out the dates on those and a few others.
